Being photogenic can help you look good in photos, but there are other tricks that keep you looking. Cosmopolitan magazine’s website asked makeup artist Georgie Eisdell, who serves personalities such as Carey Mulligan, Amanda Seyfried and Dianna Agron, for tips, and photographerJ. Ryan Roberts. They listed 19 tips.
1) Make up your eyes before applying foundation
Applying foundation after eye products ensures that the skin will have no shadow or mascara residues, leaving a flawless appearance. Makeup artist Georgie Eisdell also remembers that you shouldn’t carry too much on your eye makeup, as this makes your face look old.
2) Define the upper inner part of the eyes
Contouring the upper inner part of the eyes gives a fuller look to the lashes and helps define the shape of the eyes. Just don’t forget to use a waterproof product.
3) Apply a lot of eyelash mask
Lots of layers of mascara help open the look as well as provide definition. Makeup artist Georgie Eisdell claims that an unmasked person “disappears” in the photo.
4) Use a light consistency foundation
It’s no use betting on a very heavy product, as the skin cannot be completely covered. A mild product, with a light formula, covers what is needed, such as redness, for example, but without exaggeration.
5) Make up the ears
Yes, that’s because they usually turn hot and reddish and stand out in photos. The tip is to apply a little foundation so they won’t look different from the color and texture of your face.
7) Use blush to define the face
The tip is to apply the product with a specific brush along the hairline, a little on the forehead, chin and just below the cheeks, to give a more angular appearance. Use a bronze looking product preferably.
8) Bet on blush
Adding color and definition to the cheeks makes the person more beautiful in the photo, even if the image is in black and white. The tip for a good application is to tap the brush on the product, smile and apply the blush on the part that is more bouncy, and always towards the ears.
9) Define the eyebrows
A defined brow gives structure to the eyes and face, according to makeup artist Georgie Eisdell. Filling in gaps or giving more volume to the region is something that can be done with pencil, powder or even mascara.
10) Moisturized lips
The area may not look dry in photos. Apply lipstick, lip gloss or even a moisturizer before taking pictures. And if you used matte effect lipstick, apply a little lip moisturizer or gloss with your fingertips, lightly, on top.
11) Remove residues with masking tape
It might sound weird, but it’s a trick used by makeup artists. After applying the foundation and making up your eyes, take a piece and go pasting it on your face. The gesture removes any residue, without removing the products that covered the skin.
12) Brush hair to remove frizz
Photographer Ryan Roberts’ tip is to run the brush through the hair before the photo. Many women cannot brush the entire length so as not to dislodge curls and waves, so they can just brush the roots, for example.
13) smile
But in moderation. This is because the eyes tend to squint and expression marks can be emphasized.
14) Pay attention to the time
Photos with the noon sun don’t come out good. Prefer to be photographed in the morning or in the afternoon, after four hours. Before that, the sun will be above you and cast shadows on your face.
15) Take advantage of a cloudy day
The softer light does not emphasize expression marks, wrinkles, details that are in evidence with stronger lights.
16) Look for a white background
The trick is a suggestion by photographer Ryan Roberts, who guarantees it gives light to the face and definition to the photo.
17) Look for the best angle
Everyone has a better angle or side. To find out which is yours, look for old photos and see how to position yourself in future clicks.
18) Get the camera positioning right
A trick used by photographers is, before the click, to raise the camera to the height of the subject’s forehead and then descend to the face, seeking the best angle of the person. This ensures that the photo doesn’t emphasize the chin and neck, parts that don’t value anyone.
19) Leave the camera with the tallest person
That’s in the case of self-portraits. The longer arm will allow you to frame everyone, as well as ensuring that the other people in the photo look for their best angle.
20) Get professional light
One trick to getting a softer light than that triggered by camera flashes is to hold a piece of parchment paper in front of the flash – without letting it show up in the photo. The light hits the material and as it is not clear, it ends up working as an illumination filter.
