In Recife, companies are born on Instagram

Created in 2010 by Brazilian Mike Krieger and his partner Kevin Systrom, Instagram can be more than just an image sharing tool. With the help of the application, many virtual companies establish themselves without having to resort to platforms such as websites, which often need investments in hosting and creating layout. The social network, which reached more than 300 million users last year, surpasses Twitter’s numbers and is useful for many entrepreneurs to make more money.

Despite not having an exact formula, the application is often the main choice for those who do not have a physical establishment and want to publicize their work, as is the case with businesswoman Juliana Soares, in charge of Camarim da Ju. Working for almost two years with an online women’s clothing store, her company has nearly six thousand followers and she highlights the importance of the tool for her work: “Posting photos, I can reach a lot of people. There’s always someone who doesn’t know me, sees the image and is interested in the product”. Juliana compares the app to Facebook: “Getting likes on the Facebook page is expensive and I can count on my fingers the people who, attracted by there, shop. On Insta, I even have feedback”.

On the other hand, gastronome Jéssica Souto, a partner at Love it – Doces Finos, finds it difficult to promote the store using the tool: “Face ends up taking advantage because it has a better way of promoting the page, with the option of boosting the publication”. However, Jessica emphasizes the importance of the application being cemented in images, which, for gastronomy, is essential when it comes to arousing interest. “Whoever works with food, especially in the case of an online establishment like ours, needs to arouse desire in the customer through the eyes. Perhaps at this point Instagram is more assertive.”

Manoel Dambroski, in charge of the Seu Zé menswear virtual store, points out Instagram as the establishment’s gateway. For 4 months on the market, the brand page already has more than 600 followers and frequent interactions. Manoel explains that customers interested in the items can request the box delivery service, in which they leave some shirts at the consumer’s house and come to pick them up 24 hours later.
