Why Did Maccas Get Rid Of Veggie Burger?

“The McVeggie burger was removed from menus last month in response to changes in customer demand,” a spokesperson told news.com.au. However, the burger chain reassured customers with dietary requirements they are still able to order at Macca’s.

The McVeggie was launched in 2019 to much fanfare after being marketed as McDonald’s first ever plant-based burger. McVeggie was McDonald’s first ever ‘plant-based’ burger. Credit: McDonalds It was made of a vegetable patty, cheese, lettuce, mayo and pickles in a sesame seed bun.

White Castle recently announced it would start selling veggie sliders. The company joins fast-food chains like Burger King and Chipotle in appealing to vegetarian consumers. But Venessa Wong at Bloomberg Businessweek writes that McDonald’s doesn’t offer veggie burgers because no one buys them.

Bloomberg reports that in October of 2019, fast food chain Burger King decided to ditch their Morningstar Farms-produced veggie burger patty in favor of a more realistic plant-based meat product made by the tech food company Impossible Foods.
