Was Yoo-Hoo Ever Made With Milk?

Answer: Yoo-hoo comes in chocolate and strawberry flavors. Yoo-hoo is considered a chocolate or strawberry drink and not chocolate or strawberry milk. This is because the two main ingredients are not milk but water and high fructose corn syrup. However, this does not mean that Yoo-hoo is dairy-free.

Yoo-hoo is an American brand of chocolate beverage that was developed by Natale Olivieri in Garfield, New Jersey in 1928 [page needed] and is manufactured by Keurig Dr Pepper. As of 2019, the drink is primarily made from water, high-fructose corn syrup and whey

Yoo-hoo, however, is not altogether all that healthy because, well, it’s not altogether milk. In a general and overarching way, Yoo-hoo is chocolate-flavored milk, sure, but it’s chocolate-flavored milk that’s been heavily modified so as to remain shelf-stable and safely non-refrigerated for months on end.

The term Yoo-hoo was first applied to a fruit drink called “Tru-milk”, sold in the 1920s by Italian-American Natale Olivieri in his small soda fountain on Hackensack Street in Carlstadt, New Jersey. Olivieri soon found a way to produce a kind of chocolate-milk drink that would not spoil in the summer heat as pure chocolate milk would.
