Women with short hairstyles have to decide how to cut their sideburns so that the hairstyle still looks feminine without making the rest of the hairstyle awkward. One of the simplest ways to trim your sideburns and still maintain a feminine contour is to cut them in a thin style. This prevents the sideburns from falling into a straight edge shape like most men’s sideburn styles. Cutting your own sideburns is difficult, but you can instruct your hairdresser to use fine technique on your next visit to the salon.
Step 1
Cut the sideburns when the hair is dry. Pull your hair aside, away from your face with a comb. Hold it between your fingers.
Step 2
Cut the chops slightly longer than the desired length with scissors. Decrease the junction between the sideburns and the hair on the rest of the head to avoid a jagged, visible line between the hair and sideburns.
Step 3
Slide the tip of a razor blade across the surface of the hair to eliminate most of it. The razor will eliminate about half the hair’s thickness. Don’t cut all the strands to keep it looking thin.
Step 4
Hold the hair between your fingers again. Cut small slits at the ends of the hair with scissors. This will give the chops a thin, textured look.
Step 5
Make any additional cuts with thinning scissors. This will complete the slim look and blend the sideburns perfectly with the rest of the hairstyle.
