Block-shaped peppers typically measure 4 to 6 inches in width and height, while long varieties grow up to 8 inches long. One large bell pepper equals 1 cup chopped or 1 1/4 cups sliced. Bell peppers, also called sweet peppers, are grown in a variety of colors, including green, red, yellow, orange, purple and white.
Red bell peppers are medium to large in size, averaging 5-8 centimeters in diameter and 5-12 centimeters in length, and are rounded, square, and blocky in shape with 3-4 lobes and a thick green stem. The smooth skin is firm, glossy, and bright red, and underneath the skin, the pale red flesh is thick, juicy, crisp, and succulent.

Grown in upper U.S. Department of Agriculture zones 8 through 11, bell pepper plants may be overwintered outdoors, where they become full and bush-like.
They are native to South and Central America. The average bell pepper will weigh 4 to 5 ounces (113 to 142 grams). It measures 4 – 6 inches and will typically contain around 30 – 46 calories. A single Rouge Royal can weigh up to nearly 1 pound (453 grams).
