Having long hair is a lot of work. Washing, drying, tidying, combing, fixing, moisturizing… It’s so much work that it’s despairing!

The big concern – and perhaps what prevents us from cutting our hair short – is the fear that the result will be worse than the order. And as much as we do those simulations of “how would I look with the X cut”, the reality is always different.

The 5.7 cm rule

The hairdresser of famous Hollywoodians, Giles Robinson, of John Frieda Salons UK, revealed a magic number, which tells whether or not a person will look good with short hair.

In a matter from the newspaper Daily Mail, the professional taught the 5.7 cm rule and, amazingly, it works! All you need to do is measure the distance between the tip of your ear and the end of your face.

If you are less than 5.7 cm from your earlobe to your chin, you can bet without fear on short hair. But if you have more, think carefully: maybe this cut doesn’t add to your little face.

To make it easier, use a pencil in front of the mirror. This makes it easy to measure.

The technique becomes very clear when we compare some familiar faces.

Michelle Williams (left) and Kim Kardashian (right) are beautiful, but they have very different faces. The result of this is that Kim might lose some of her charm if she opted for a short haircut.

The ruler test shows something already well known: the smaller the face, the greater your appreciation for a short haircut.

However, if you have a longer face and can’t handle longer hair, according to Robinson, a good option is the chanel. Because it is elongated, it maintains a tapered shape.
