McDonald’s Spicy Chicken Nuggets were first introduced in 2020. They were the first McNugget flavor since McDonald’s unveiled their iconic nuggets in 1983. According to CNN Business, the chain credits its spicy chicken nuggets for its boost in sales during the initial onset of the pandemic.

In an interesting move, McDonald’s is not doing anything different to the chicken chonk itself, instead opting to restrict all of the spiciness to the “Original Spicy Sauce.” Yes, in less than a year, McDonald’s created two new spicy sauces, the Mighty Hot Sauce, and the Original Spicy Sauce.

It still remains to be seen if Spicy Chicken McNuggets will become even more popular than Popeye’s chicken sandwich and other competing chicken offerings from competing fast food chains. Described by McDonald’s as “Breaded with a sizzling tempura coating made of both cayenne and chili peppers,” they definitely bring the heat.
