Are Belvita Biscuits Unhealthy?

Overall, BelVita bars have a mix of healthy and unhealthy ingredients. They do have some healthy whole grains—but they also have processed sugars, processed flour, and oil. Personally, I’m not that impressed so far. But let’s keep going. Do belVita Biscuits have high fructose corn syrup? BelVita Biscuits do not contain high fructose corn syrup.

Sounds pretty good right; wholegrains (5 in fact), nutritious apparently and containing a source of some micronutrients. So we can have biscuits for breakfast and they’re healthy! Awesome. See ya later porridge and fruithello chocolate biscuits!

They come in three different flavors including apple cinnamon, golden oat, and blueberry. Here is my Belvita Breakfast Biscuit review.

BelVita bars are not the best for weight loss, as they have several high-calorie and processed ingredients like added sugar, enriched flour, and vegetable oil. They are also somewhat low in protein, so they may be less filling than other bars.

How many syns are there in a biscuit?

If you are watching your calories and follow Slimming World or Weight Watchers diet, then it’s good to know there are 2.5 to 3 syns and 1.5 Weight Watchers points per biscuit (depending on the variety).

Obviously, the Milk and Cereals biscuit wouldn’t be vegan due to the milk content , which comes in the form of milk powders in the ingredient, however, the packet has a bold “May contain egg, nuts and sesame” so I am guessing that these are produced in a factory where cross-contamination is a consideration.

Let’s be honest, it doesn’t matter if they are the greatest nutritional “superfood” ever invented but if they taste awful then it’s all irrelevant. Well, they don’t taste awful. They do have quite an artificial flavour and the texture tells you that there are whole grains and fibre is present but they are ok to eat.

On the plus side, Belvita breakfast biscuits do contain some minerals, vitamins and fibre which are all beneficial for your body so at least you will get something good out of them. But the amount of these beneficial nutrients is not that much and won’t make much difference to your health.

Are belVita Biscuits Good for You?

Below are the 7 questions I’ve answered about belVita Biscuit nutrition. Click to skip to any section, or keep reading for the full analysis:

Let’s start by looking at the ingredients. There are many kinds of belVita Biscuits, but we’ll be looking at 3 popular flavors as a sample.

BelVita Biscuits have around 9 to 13 grams of sugar per serving, which is moderately high for bars of this type and size. Most of that is added sugar, not fruit sugar.

Most belVita Biscuits only have 3 or 4 grams of protein per bar. That is quite low compared to actual protein bars, which often have 10 to 20 grams per bar.

Most belVita Biscuits have only 3 or 4 grams of dietary fiber per bar. This is moderate fiber content when compared to other kinds of energy bars, granola bars, and whole-grain snacks.

The belVita Biscuits I checked have between 120mg and 210mg of sodium per serving, depending on the flavor. This is moderate to slightly high sodium for such breakfast bars.

BelVita bars are not the best for weight loss, as they have several high-calorie and processed ingredients like added sugar, enriched flour, and vegetable oil. They are also somewhat low in protein, so they may be less filling than other bars. But BelVita Biscuits can still be eaten on a diet.

How many carbs are in Crunchy Biscuits?

Their flagship Crunchy biscuits have on average 11g sugar per serving (that’s nearly THREE TEAPOONS OF SUGAR), 35g carbs and 230 calories, so you will feel temporarily full, for just an hour or so. The beauty of carbs.

The Soft Baked variety has a similar average of 11g sugar (THREE TEASPOONS OF SUGAR, AGAIN), 30g carbs and 200 calories. Although they do taste the most indulgent they are the healthiest, despite canola oil and sugar featuring highly in the ingredients list.

If it is a filling and healthy breakfast you need, belVita breakfast bars are not the answer – they’re not good for you.

How many calories are in a Belvita biscuit?

So from this you can see they’re pretty similar in terms of macronutrition, the Hob Nobs are slightly in calories, however the belVita Biscuits come in packets of three — and this is how they’re suggested to be eaten along with fruit, dairy and a tea or coffee which could easily come to 400 to 500 calories.

They’re the only breakfast biscuit proven to slowly release carbohydrates over 4 hrs, as part of a balanced breakfast (this part is key guys we will come onto it later).

Again similar to the above but in form of a drink, I would recommend Upbeat with fewer than 150 calories and 20g of protein per bottle. All of the above options would contain more micronutrition than a packet of belVita biscuits and because they’re higher in fibre and protein too they will keep you fuller for longer.

OK so we now realise that belVita really don’t contain all that many whole-grains and of the 5 you’re really only getting oat and wheat, much like the Hob Nobs. So belVita that bangs on about it’s slow digesting carbohydrates actually contains fewer than a delicious Hob Nob!

belVita is a biscuit. So from the above we can gather that there is nothing special about belVita breakfast biscuits. Their claims can only be made when they’re eaten with other items, and I would argue you could do the exact same with a Hob Nob, the only difference being Hob Nobs are not thought to be healthy.
