As many of you are already aware Costco has recently replaced the Berry Smoothie in their food courts with a new Fruit Smoothie โ much to the chagrin of loyal Berry Smoothie fans. This new smoothie is touted as having:
Fruit smoothies are good for you as long as they don’t contain a lot of sugar and don’t cause you to exceed your daily calorie needs. What’s in a Fruit Smoothie? A fruit smoothie can make a healthy breakfast on the run or a nutritious midafternoon snack.
But this so-called โhealthierโ smoothie comes at a massive 106% price increase. The beloved Berry Smoothie cost a mere $1.45, while the new Fruit Smoothie costs $2.99. And according to the nutritional information card, at 15.5 ounces the new Fruit Smoothie is actually .5 ounces less than the old Berry Smoothie, which was a full 16 ounces.
The difference is that when you eat the whole fruit, you also get fiber and nutrients your body needs for good health, which offset the sugar content โ but they don’t offset the calorie content. If you’re concerned about the calorie content of your fruit smoothie, it’s a good idea to choose fruits that are lower in sugar, such as:
