When Should I Drink Black Pepper Water?

Black pepper is considered safe for human consumption in the typical amounts used in food and cooking (2). Supplements containing 5–20 mg of piperine per dose also appear to be safe, but research in this area is limited (13, 15).

Large amounts of capsaicin could be toxic if ingested, but the amount found in cayenne is so small that you’re really not at risk of harm from drinking cayenne pepper water. Open Heart published research in June 2015 reporting that rodents find significant benefit from capsaicin intakes in the range of 0.01 to 0.02 percent of diet.

Black pepper, in amounts usually needed for cooking, can be consumed without the side effects. It is only when it is used in large doses or as supplements in the form of its active compound piperine that one needs to be cautious.
