After Popeyes took on Chick-fil-a with their version of the crispy chicken sandwich, McDonald’s is joining in the chicken sandwich wars with their very own new chicken sandwich and there are only two places in the country to try out McDonald’s new crispy chicken sandwich.
According to the brand, the Crispy Chicken Sandwich, the Spicy Chicken Sandwich, and the Deluxe Chicken Sandwich will be available in the United States starting February 24. According to Joe Erlinger, president of McDonald’s USA, the new chicken sandwich will “jump-start our chicken journey,” noting that new chicken products may be in the works.
McDonald’s new sandwiches sound eerily similar to three of Chick-fil-A’s most popular sandwiches. What’s more, McDonald’s will serve the new sandwiches in foil bags, just like its chicken-centric competitor.
Business Insider’s Kate Taylor first reported last October that McDonald’s would be adding chicken to the breakfast menu after it lost part of its share in the chicken category during the so-called Chicken Sandwich Wars sparked by Popeyes’ new sandwich.
What is the chicken sandwich at Wendy’s?
The brand’s Classic Chicken Sandwich, made with a fried-chicken filet, lettuce, tomato, pickles and mayo, replaced the Homestyle Chicken Sandwich, which had been on Wendy’s menu for at least a decade. Over the summer, KFC tested a new, premium chicken sandwich called the KFC Chicken Sandwich.
