Rua 25 de Março, São Paulo

Rua 25 de Março is located in the center of the city of São Paulo and is considered the largest shopping center in Latin America, as well as one of the busiest wholesale and retail shopping centers in the city.

But it is not just a street as its name suggests, but a conglomeration of shops and galleries that goes from the Mosteiro de São Bento to the Municipal Market, where a wide range of imported products is sold at low cost.

One of the biggest obstacles to local commerce is the high number of street vendors’ stalls that compete for space with commercial stores, selling on the streets.

During our visit, we experienced curious scenes of police arriving and causing a rush of street vendors collecting their products, soon after, when they left, they were all installed again.

Confusion is part of the environment and bargaining is natural, as competition is great, both from stores and even among consumers, as more than 400,000 people circulate daily through the neighborhood, and on the eve of special dates then, this number exceeds 1 million.
