Some haircut styles still leave women in doubt. The pebbled and the shredded are two examples that, for many people, seem to be the same thing. But it is not. Depending on the cut, the effect on the hair will be totally different, and it can improve or destroy the look. Therefore, when opting for a cut, it is important to know exactly what it is. Talking to the professional and explaining what you want is always good, as he will know how to say what works best for each person.

Hairdresser Malu Alves, from the Jolie Studio Beauty salon, in Rio de Janeiro, explains that the main difference between the plucked and the shredded is that the first has more defined layer effects, while the second is a more disconnected cut, with ‘torn’ effect. There is no one cut better than the other, but styles that more or less suit each person, taking into account the type of hair and the shape of the face.

Each hair type requires a different technique

Long: Those with long hair can opt for cuts in long layers, to distribute the volume; or the frayed cut, to reduce the volume.

Short: In short hair all cuts can be used, as long as the type of hair is respected.

Bulky: They can be cut with both techniques, depending on the client’s wishes. The type of layer will define if it will give more volume or if it will distribute the volume. If the idea was for less voluminous hair, the shredded cut is used.

Fine: Finer hair with little volume cannot be shredded too much. This type of hair is best cut in long layers, to give more volume and movement.

The peak conquered women in the 90’s and, since then, has remained on the rise. The shredded is also with everything. Among the famous, actress Déborah Secco is a fan of the style.

Contrary to what many people think, these two types of cuts are not exclusive to straight hair. Curly or frizzy ones can also adopt these cuts, as long as they are adapted to each type of hair and face. Only a professional will be able to evaluate.

That’s why it’s essential to always look for a good salon, so that no mistakes or regrets happen, as a poorly cut cut can greatly damage the look. The tip is also valid for people who want to change but are insecure. “Sometimes the client has a certain resistance to changing her look, but she must trust the professional, who has a background, who knows her hair well, who knows what looks best. Many times we, beauty professionals, see that a change in that person would give an up”, says the hairdresser.

How to take care of the wires

In order for a cut to always remain beautiful and with a good fit, no matter what style it is, it is necessary to go back to the hairdresser at the most every three months. For daily care, look for products that suit your hair type.
