From these bases, Rega operates 18 rescue helicopters and can reach any point in the area it covers within 15 minutes of an emergency call. Each base has a
crew (pilot, paramedic and emergency doctor) ready to intervene 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Despite being known for its high mountain rescues, Rega’s service covers all medical emergencies, from road accidents to acute illnesses, such as heart problems. In 2020, Rega also repatriated more than 750 patients to Switzerland, either with one of its three ambulance planes or on board an airliner.
Rega emphasizes that its mission is “to provide assistance wherever, thanks to its intervention, the life or health of others can be preserved, spared or protected”. During the pandemic, the organization continued to carry out the air rescue in Switzerland.
