They are barely into their second decade of life and can already be considered veterans when it comes to country music. After all, from the passions that start to arouse early on, this one was capable of consolidating horizons and projecting others. Ceará women are launching themselves with great vigor in a scenario still markedly marked by the male presence.

Much of this willingness to break down barriers in between and move forward with talent and perseverance connects with the legacy left by Marília Mendonça. Victim of a plane crash last Friday (5), the singer and songwriter from Goiás is a frequent presence in the speech of the musical artist who is also Luh Barboza, 21.

“She was and will always be my greatest inspiration”, he highlights, pointing out the sadness in receiving the news of the death of someone he so admired. “I had a lot of difficulty attending some shows in bars that I had already closed. It was a big hit for all of us”. But what could be a reason for paralysis, now injects more and more breath into the work ahead.

On stage since the age of 12, Luh realizes that following music and building a career has never been and will never be easy. Even so, he doesn’t give up on trying to make his dreams come true and touching the audience through emotion. She crowns the nights of Fortaleza with a repertoire that walks between the sertanejo and the piseiro, favorite genres.

The themes of the songs are the most varied: about ex-partners, friends, love and marital status. “Songs that can’t be missing from my shows are: ‘Graveto’, ‘Hello Porter’, ‘Gift from God’ and ‘My Honey’”, enumerates. “The taste for the sertanejo began when I saw Marília Mendonça and Paula Fernandes composing, playing and giving voice to us women”.

Having grown up in an evangelical cradle, Ceara suffers a lot from musical choices due to religion. However, in the artistic milieu, she was lucky not to have encountered any obstacles because she is a woman.. “I have many friends who encourage me, mainly because I’m a songwriter and want to join the backwoodsman and the piseiro”.

extended legacy

When he reflects on the artists responsible for leveraging new paths for other members of the panorama, the names come easily. In addition to the aforementioned Marília Mendonça and Paula Fernandes, Luh Barboza references Maiara & Maraisa, Simone and Simaria and Naiara Azevedo. According to her, the recognition achieved by the new generation of women in the backlands and in the piseiro was only provided by these interpreters.

“That’s what music is, giving voice. Our Northeast is full of talents, I believe that many singers will become known around the world. Like me, many women are singing in bars, restaurants, weddings and closed events, such as birthdays, parties with friends and family moments.”

In each of these moments, a satisfaction springs from seeing the joy in people’s eyes when they see her sing. For the artist, the return is inexplicable and full of love. “There is nothing better in the world than receiving words of encouragement, of persistence, of seeing that my audience believes that I can go further”.

Also, because it has a strong and at the same time delicate timbre, some spectators end up remembering Marília or Paula Fernandes when they were in contact with Luh’s performance. marilia Mendonça, not without reason, taught her never to give up on her dreams; always give the best; invest in you and in the people who bet on your potential; choose your friends well; and make music, no matter the situation.

Added together, all these prerogatives have already caused the Ceará to launch a clip, in 2019, from a song about the need to raise awareness of depression and suicide – in the wake of the Yellow September campaign; and an EP earlier this year, titled “No Deny”, available on all music platforms.

“I’m working on a new EP, with a mixture of backcountry and piseiro. I believe that by the end of the month I’ll be releasing some songs”, it adds. “For women who are starting in the field, my advice is to pay attention to those who share your dreams, use the internet in your favor, and compose, prepare a repertoire and take care to sing in bars and restaurants in Fortaleza, to gain experience musical and life too”.

always a romanticism

Also at a young age, Letícia Lima Araújo, 22, also chose to follow this musical path and elects the romantic component as the master flag of his performance in bars, restaurants and private parties in the Capital.

“Wedding invitation”, by Luan Santana, and “What is missing in you is me”, by Marília Mendonça, are among the songs that cannot be missing from Letícia’s performances. The objective, according to her, is to touch people, making the atmosphere of affection and union hover between couples and other spectators who follow the show.

“Since 2016 I sing in bars and I’ve always put the sertanejo in my repertoire because it’s a rhythm I like, and also for the audience”, she explains, also referring that, with her, other women are launching themselves on the scene, stretching the ways of making and making present the country music among us.

“Thank God, I never suffered anything because I was a woman. People in general and my audience have always been very nice and nice to me.” This reality, as he points out, is largely due to the performance of singers such as Marília Mendonça. In Letícia’s view, she is the greatest artist in Brazil.

“When I started to sing, my repertoire was only Marília, and to this day there are also many songs by her in my show. People always ask for a lot, Marília reached all ages and genders”. It is to continue following these women to prove that the seed sown is yielding inspired and captivating fruit.
