What is a clif bar?

Clif Traditional Energy Bars. The original energy bars are the most easily accessible Clif bars. You can find them literally everywhere, as they’re essentially the most popular variation of bars sold by the Clif Bar brand.

Thus, the only way of knowing which type of sugar is being used is by actually contacting the company. Fortunately, a lot of the Clif bars use Organic cane sugar, so you don’t really need to worry, as there are plenty of bars to choose from.

According to the Clif Bar website, there are 5 types of Clif bars with different core ingredients and they all contain a decent amount of protein. Here’s a quick overview of the 5 different types:

The fruit smoothie bars are also energy bars, but they use classic smoothie ingredients such as fruits, seeds, and nut butter.

The Nut Butter bars are also an energy bar variation, but instead of fruits and nuts, they focus on delivering a variety of different kinds of butter.

According to the manufacturer, the Builder’s protein bar is designed to help your repair and build muscle by fueling you with 20g of protein and essential amino acids. These type of protein bars are available in 7 different flavors: Chocolate Peanut Butter. Chocolate Mint. Vanilla Almond.

But if it makes any difference, the palm oil in Clif Bars is sustainably sourced.

How many types of cif bars are there?

There are 5 main types of Clif Bars, all with different core ingredients, so I’ve divided this guide into 5 section, each with its own detailed table. See those sections for specific flavors.

Builder’s Bars. All are vegan, but all bars contain palm kernel oil. Whey Protein Bars. None are vegan. Those first 4 types are all dairy-free, but obviously the whey bars have whey in them, which is derived from dairy.

Palm products – Many Clif Bars have palm products in them, which is an ingredient that many vegans don’t eat. While palm is technically vegan, I’ve specifically pointed out which bars contain palm products. Luna bars (made by same company) also all contain palm oil in all their bars.

All of the classic Clif Bars are vegan except for the Peanut Butter & Honey flavor. Nut filled Clif Bars and Builder’s bars are vegan, but have palm oil in them. There’s a handful of bars that are clearly marked “nut butter” on the label. These are again all vegan in the sense that there are no animal products in them, however, there is palm oil in all of them. Here are the flavors: Flavor.

Additionally, many bars have ingredients like dry milk powder, but I didn’t look too closely beyond confirming that they all have whey protein in them.

Clif Bars are not super healthy, but they have a decent amount of protein, and taste great. Clif Bars are a good addition to any vegan care package.
