The first place on the podium belongs to the residence of the Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah, which covers 200,000 m² of space. This huge infrastructure houses more bedrooms and bathrooms than are needed.
Indeed, the latter contains 1788 rooms, 257 bathrooms, a garage for 110 cars, stables, a banquet hall, swimming pools and even a mosque that can accommodate 1500 people. The cost of this project is $1.4 billion.
2 – Antilia – Mumbai, India – 37150 square meters
It is not an average property with 3 floors, but a personal skyscraper that the richest Indian in the world named Mukesh Ambani had built.
The property located in the middle of Mumbai in India stands on 27 floors or 150 meters in height and spreads over 37,500 m². The latter occupies the second place of the podium of the largest residence in the world.
Its construction cost more than a billion dollars, which is a substantial sum, but not fatal for the businessman who would have more than 30 billion dollars.
This gargantuan building is distinguished by its architectural particularity. Indeed, each floor is designed differently using materials varying for each floor.
The traditional Hindu art, the Vastu Shastra, was commandeered for the purpose of building the infrastructure.
Based on this philosophy, each floor serves its purpose, from car garages to spas, a gym, indoor pools and a rooftop helipad.
3 – Biltmore Estate – Asheville, USA – 16,600 square meters
The “Biltmore Estate” located in North Carolina in the city of Asheville, is considered the largest private residence in the country. Indeed, the property covers more than 16600 m². The mansion was built in 1895, is located in the heart of the mountains.
The Biltmore Estate stands apart from other private hotels in the world. It is at the service of the public 35 years after its construction in 1930. Offering services such as gourmet meals with its own production of wines.
The main house of the Biltmore Estate is owned by railroad and shipping magnate Cornelius Vanderbilt.
The latter contains more than 250 rooms, 43 bathrooms, 65 fireplaces, a bowling alley, a library of 23,000 books and an indoor swimming pool.
4 – Safra Mansion – Sao Paulo, Brazil – 10,800 square meters
The “Safra Mansion” in Sao Paulo, Brazil is an imposing residence of 10,800m² comprising no less than 130 rooms, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, all surrounded by an impressive wall.
The interior of the property intrigues more than one. Indeed, few people know what the property contains, as members of the Safra family choose to stay close to each other and live in relative isolation.
5 – Witanhurst – London, England – 8,370 square meters
The mansion located in London ranks second is the largest residential complex in London after Buckingham Palace.
Built between 1913 and 1920 and designed by architect George Hubbard, it incorporates part of the former Parkfield estate that stood on the sprawling property.
The 90,000 square meter property includes all the modern conveniences one could wish for, including a swimming pool with sauna and fitness center, a cinema room, a massage parlor and several parking spaces.
This gigantic residence belongs to the billionaire Andrey Guryev of Russian origin. The latter had bought it in 2008 for the sum of 64 million dollars.
